World Asthma Day

Asthma is a lung disease that makes breathing difficult for millions of Americans. Although there isn't a cure, it can be managed and treated so you can live a normal, healthy life and it all starts with the indoor air you breathe.

Americans spend nearly 90% of their time indoors. Without proper ventilation and air filtration, the air we breathe indoors can be 2-5 times more polluted than outdoor air. Allergens and other contaminants such as dust, pollen, pet dander, mold, bacteria, chemicals and gasses from cleaning supplies, and other volatile organic compounds circulate through the air we breathe and create an environment that is determinantal to our overall health. Especially those who already suffer from allergies and other respiratory health issues such as asthma. Medication is necessary for chronic asthma sufferers, however, creating a healthy indoor environment by capturing and removing indoor airborne allergens and contaminants is just as necessary. Asthma is no longer considered a single disease and the management steps may vary slightly depending on the type of asthma that you have. There are four known types of asthma and by working with your doctor and managing indoor air quality, there are different options available to treat that type of asthma. Asthma can be diagnosed at any time in someones life. While there isn't a cure for asthma, it can be managed. Working towards creating a healthy indoor environment, along with along side a medical professional, you can combat asthma flareups caused by exposure to poor indoor air quality.

The necessity for healthy indoor air is most important for those who suffer from health-related issues such as asthma and other respiratory-related issues. Aside from regular cleaning, here are 5 steps Fresh Air Matters recommends and how we can help you create clean, healthy indoor air.
