Frequently Asked Questions

Fresh Air Matters Indoor Air Quality

Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) refers to the air quality within and around buildings, especially as it relates to the health of the building's occupants. Removing common pollutants indoors can help reduce your risk of indoor health concerns. Particles that can impact Indoor Air Quality include common smoke, bacteria, tobacco smoke, pollen, pet dander, dust, and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

What Is Indoor Air Quality?

Fresh Air Matters specializes in improving indoor air quality by creating fresh, purified indoor air. We offer one-of-a-kind plans and services like air duct cleaning and more for cities in Dallas/Ft. Worth that includes Frisco, Mckinney, Allen, Plano, Little Elm, Prosper, Celina, and much more. We also offer HEPA filter air purifiers, and indoor air quality products that clean and purify your air, combat health issues associated with exposure to poor indoor air quality, and are shipped to all lower 48 states.

How To Improve Indoor Air Quality.

An air purifier is essentially a motor with a fan that draws polluted air in a room into the unit and forces that air through different layers of filter. The purified air is then returned to the room repeating this cycle over and over to effectively improve the air quality.

A/C Filter Replacement Plans

How do you know what size A/C filter I have?

  • When you schedule your personalized A/C Filter Disposal Plan there is a section for additional notes. Within this section is where you tell us what size filter you have.

What if I don't know the size of my filter?

  • No problem! Let us know that you are unable to locate the size of your filter and we are more than happy to come to your home and check for you before the scheduled service.

Is it more expensive to replace a filter larger than 1"?

  • Yes. Filters larger than 1" (one inch) are replaced, at minimum, every 60 days. Due to the size of the filter, there will be an additional $20.00 per filter added to your invoice.

Why do you clean my intake vent?

  • Like your filter, the intake vent collects dust, mold, bacteria, pet dander, and other airborne allergens that can build up. Over time, this build-up will not only release into your HVAC system and circulate through your home, but it can also attach itself to your inner coils and cause HVAC failure if not taken care of properly.

Can you clean my other vents?

  • Yes. There will be a separate charge of $5.00 per additional vent.

Do you offer a one-time service?

  • Although we can clean the additional vents one time, the service we provide is done every 30, 60, or 90 days which creates peace of mind for you. We eliminate the worry of having to replace your filter every 30 - 90 days because we do it for you.

Do I pay more if my furnace is in the attic?

  • No. You will pay the same amount no matter where your furnace is located.

How long do I pay?

  • As long as you want. No contract. No cancellation fees.

Do I pay monthly?

  • It depends on the package you select. For the Fresh package, a 90-day payment will be collected automatically every 3 months and an invoice will be sent to you via email and/or text. Fresher package bi-monthly payment will be collected automatically every 60 days (2 months) and an invoice will be sent to you via email and/or text. Freshest package monthly payment will be collected automatically every month and an invoice will be sent to you via email and/or text.

What plan is recommended?

  • It depends. If your home can be considered high traffic (pets, children, continual exit/re-entry) the monthly plan (Freshest) is recommended. Otherwise, it depends on your personal preference.

Can I cancel my service?

  • Yes, however, we ask for a 30-day notice of cancellation if possible.

Do you provide the air filters?

  • Yes! We provide the filters and replace them for you too.

How do I get in contact with you if I have any questions?

  • There are multiple ways to get in contact with a representative from Fresh Air Matters. There is a "Contact Us" section on the Home screen, but calling us at (469) 469-1852 or emailing us is the best way.

What kind of air filters are used?

  • All of our air purifiers generally use double or triple filter technology. Among those filters are a carbon filter that captures gases and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and a HEPA or other patented filters. The HEPA and other patented filters are what truly purifies the air by capturing up to 99.99% of microbes as low as .001.

How often should I change the filters?

  • Each model ranges in filter replacement schedule from 6 months to 5 years.

Does Fresh Air Matters ship the Air Purifiers?

Air Duct Cleaning

How much does Fresh Air Matters charge per vent?

  • All vents are included in the price.

How is the air duct cleaning service priced?

  • Unlike most companies, our service is priced per unit.

How will I know if my requested date/time is approved?

  • A Fresh Air Matters representative will be in contact with you once your request has been submitted.

What kind of machine do you use?

  • Rotobrush with multiple rotating brush attachments.

What kind of chemicals do you use?

  •  None. We only use chemicals if absolutely necessary.

When would chemicals be used?

  • The only time chemicals will be used is if the air duct technician identifies the presence of mold or mildew that would require removal and treatment.  Although this is rare, it does happen. In this case, the technician would complete the initial service and the discussion over treatment options would be had.

How often should the ducts be cleaned?

  • With regular filter replacement, the air ducts are recommended to be cleaned every 3-5 years.

Is the process messy?

  • Although the removal of indoor airborne allergens and pollutants seems like a messy job, we take proper precautions to assure that the area below the air vent is covered and cleaned after the job is completed if need be. The vacuum is attached to the hose and captures the agitated pollutants from within the air duct being cleaned.

Carpet Cleaning

How often should my carpets be cleaned?

  • It is recommended to have your carpets cleaned about once a year.

Do prices vary per room?

  • Prices vary between rooms, stairs, and hallways.

How do carpets affect indoor air quality?

  • Your carpet collects the indoor airborne allergens and pollutants within the fibers. When agitated, those allergens and pollutants are released back into the air you breathe.

Refer to the Carpet Cleaning page for more information.

HVAC Maintenance

What is included in the HVAC Maintenance?

  • A certified HVAC technician will clean your furnace and condenser coils and inspect the entire unit, absolutely free.

What does "priced per coil" mean?

  • Your HVAC system has two coils. One is in the furnace and the other is located on the outdoor unit, otherwise known as the condenser.

Is it important to have the coils cleaned regularly?

  • Yes! Your coils are among the most important components of your HVAC system. Without proper and regular HVAC maintenance. your indoor air quality and HVAC efficiency will suffer. As your coils become more congested your HVAC system has to work harder to filter your air and cool and heat your home which leads to faster part breakdown and costly, possibly even preventable repairs.

Whole-Home Purification and UV Purification

What is the difference between them?

  • The Dust Free Active Air Purifier is an in-duct whole-home air purifier combining multiple technologies to offer best in class active air purification indoors, effectively reducing bacteria, dust, viruses, odors, allergens, volatile organic compounds, respirable particulate, and more. Dust-Free Active Air Purifier utilizes multiple technologies that include UV-C light, ionic oxidation, and negative ionization to purify indoor air and surface.

  • The Air Purifier UV Light is installed in the duct for HVAC AC Duct Germicidal Filter. The Air Purifier Ultraviolet Light HVAC Dual lamp is 120V UV-C dual light. This is a powerful UVC unit that is rated for Air systems 1-5 tons, kills up to 99.9% of existing mold, mildew, and airborne viruses, and will prevent them from ever growing again and spreading. By killing and preventing airborne contaminants you will be less susceptible to allergies, asthma, breathing problems, headaches, dizziness, neurological problems, and other long-term health problems caused by mold, mildew, and airborne viruses.

Which does Fresh Air Matters recommend?

  • Depending on your air purification needs and budget, each has its benefits. The Single UV bulb has a smaller light radius than that of the double bulb and less light frequency. The double bulb and single bulb are budget-friendly, but the double bulb is more expensive. Both models inhibit the growth of microbes that spread on your coils within your furnace.

  • The whole-home air purifier costs more but is a dust-free air purifier/air scrubber that offers best-in-class active air purification indoors, effectively reducing bacteria, dust, viruses, odors, allergens, volatile organic compounds, respirable particulate, and more. Dust-Free Active Air Purifier utilizes multiple technologies that include UV-C light, ionic oxidation, and negative ionization to purify indoor air and surface.

  • If it is within your budget, the Whole-Home air purifier is what we recommend.
